Strong, gusty winds knocked down tree branches and power lines, causing thousands of people to lose power in Southwest Ohio and the Miami Valley on Friday afternoon into the weekend.

“Our crews continue working day and night to restore power following this multiday restoration effort,” AES Ohio said in a Sunday update. “As of this update, 1,270 customers remain without power across 213 outage locations. Many of these outages affect just one to three customers, which can take additional time to safely repair.”

“Strong and potentially damaging winds are forecasted for this evening and into Monday morning,” the post continued. “These conditions can create new outages and may impact restoration work. Please stay weather aware and prioritize safety.”

As of 12:46 p.m., more than 2,000 people were without power in the region.

In Montgomery County, AES Ohio had 1,882 customers without service, according to the outage map. Large outages were reported near Cornell Heights and Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark in Dayton, the Rip Rad and Chambersburg roads area in Vandalia and Huber Heights and south of Carriage Hill MetroPark on Friday.

There were reports of traffic lights being out on Wayne Avenue. A franchise restaurant Wendy’s at Wayne Avenue and Wyoming Street was without power, according to reports.
